Consider the BMW R 18 Transcontinental
The R 18 Transcontinental offers you an exclusive and luxurious journey. As a member of the R 18 family, it represents the tradition of BMW Motorrad and is deeply grounded in the here and now: its unmistakable front with a high windshield and powerful Big Boxer promise a comfortable and powerful ride for miles. The automatic load compensation function adapts the chassis to the load applied to the motorcycle. And because it’s ready to be customized, you can precisely define your R 18 Transcontinental according to what you discover on each ride: yourself.
The R 18 Transcontinental looks like it could just eat up the miles. A sizeable front wheel cover and a striking front end with additional headlights create the starting point for an elegantly streamlined shape. A 24-liter tank, wind deflectors, running boards, and a top case with a passenger backrest complete the sharp look.
The R 18 Transcontinental was perfectly prepared for anything you could throw at it. It has been built/designed, so you can customize it the way you want. A vast collection of original BMW Motorrad accessories further supports this personalization concept. The “Machined” and “2-Tone-Black” collections, developed in collaboration with Roland Sands Design, the classic “Option 719”, for example, with the AERO Design package, further emphasize the luxurious appearance of the motorcycle. The R 18 Transcontinental can be further customized and upgraded with sophisticated and convenient touring equipment such as case inserts.
You already understand why Big Boxer is named as it is when you start it. You can feel the huge shift every meter of the way. With its typical boxer power, you can count on a minimum of 150Nm between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. Impressive torque and pristine responsiveness ensure total long-term enjoyment – relaxed but never boring. And the exposed nickel-plated driveshaft shows how much history we packed into that 1,802cc.
You can eat up the miles in comfort on the R 18 Transcontinental: Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) and optional Active Cruise Control independently monitor speed and distance to the vehicle ahead. In addition, three Ride Modes, automatic stability control (ASC) and dynamic engine braking control (MSR), ensure greater safety as standard. Reversing, hill start control system, and optional central locking system for cases and top case guarantee even greater convenience for every kilometer of the journey.
Check out the BMW R 18 B
There has never been so much volume on a BMW. It can be seen, heard, and felt. Count on more than 111 lb.-ft anytime between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm for powerful pleasure and consistently high torque that develops in typical boxer fashion. At 4,750 rpm, the robust transmission produces 91 hp. The exposed nickel-plated prop shaft is based on a traditional design and is one of the many other highlights of this 1802cc.
The R 18 B’s three Ride Modes offer you riding pleasure as standard, complemented by available Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and Dynamic Engine Brake Management (MSR). Available reverse assist and hill start control make hill starts easier and even more convenient. In addition, the traditional shape of the headlights has advanced LED lighting technology. Adaptive headlamps are available as an option to provide you with almost complete illumination of the road when cornering, keeping the high beams at a constant distance.
